"Lone Star Food Stores" - Bill Douglass of Douglass Distributing

Van Alstyne, TX

Project Notes

Bill Douglass, the head of his family owned business, Douglass Distributing, located in Van Alstyne, TX had a 8,250 sf store in desperate need of remodeling. Bill needed a clean, contemporary design that was warm, inviting and tied into the local community.  To help cement this local community bond, the mural above the coolers are comprised of photos taken in the Van Alstyne area by Lone Star staff. Bill worked with his daughter Diane McCarty to come up with a store that both of them could be proud of.  The interior is comprised of, Texas colors in red, blue and white with complimentary neutrals and the repeated star logo. Modern pale stone finishes and brushed nickel accents compliment the medium brown/dark cabinetry. Similar to light glowing gems, red pendant lights hang over the expansive counters. The opulent pendant lighting isn’t the only sparkle to steal the show, complimentary red glass tile with an opal sheen can be found wrapping its way around upper counters and back-splashes. During the daytime, stepped skylights preform double duty as both points of interest and additional lighting. Above the coolers historic, regional black and white images can be found. Additional offerings include a beer cave, Subway & Burger King QSRs, seating with brushed aluminum chairs/tan padded seats and a wall of near floor to ceiling windows.
