Rutter’s
YORK, PA
Rutter’s has never been a brand that stands still. With roots stretching back to 1747 and a c-store presence since 1968, this York, Pennsylvania institution has earned a reputation for pushing convenience retail further than most are willing to go. When it came time to design their most ambitious prototype yet, they brought Paragon in to help realize it.
The result is 1747 Bar & Gaming Lounge, a 14,000-square-foot concept named for the year Rutter’s was founded and built to redefine what a convenience store can be. Paragon handled the complete design solution, from store layout to a complete new exterior design, interior environment, and graphics throughout. The first two locations opened in Johnstown and Milton, Pennsylvania, and the brief was clear: create a true destination, a third place where guests aged 21 and over can eat, drink, watch sports, and stay a while.
Inside, the bar and gaming lounge anchors the experience, with more than 20 65-inch screens, live sports tickers, five video gaming terminals, and a beverage program that feels more like a high-end sports bar than a fuel stop. The coffee and grab-and-go food areas carry the same elevated tone, drawing comparisons to upscale coffee shops in their fit and finish. Even the restrooms were treated as a brand statement. Every square foot reflects a company that knows its customers and designs with them in mind. 1747 is now the foundation for Rutter’s next generation of stores, and the design shows exactly why.
